Nora Fleming, Vice-President & Creative Director

Nora Fleming is inspired by nature, pattern and architecture. Born and raised in Helsinki, Finland, she is the child of architects who grew up immersed in modern art, design and the outdoors.

Always creative, she was influenced from an early age by the colors and patterns of Marimekko. When she was a child,
Nora often spent time with her grandmother who managed a Marimekko shop. Surrounded by the beautiful printed fabrics
and simple styles, Nora’s design sensibilities were born and she was destined to one day work for the famous Finnish textile and clothing company.

Nora studied graphic design at the Finnish university, EVTEK and furthered her studies in graphic concept design when she was invited to study at Fabrica, Benetton’s prestigious Communication Research Centre in Treviso, Italy.

Describing her design style as playful and timeless, Nora’s talent caught the attention of Marimekko and her first collection for the company was created while she was still studying at Fabrica.

Nora spent nine successful years at Marimekko designing textiles and products that have been recognized worldwide. Her most famous international fabric for Marimekko was Horse Chestnut. The contemporary textile was an enormous success in Japan, a Parisian hotel used it to decorate all their rooms and Italy’s innovative furniture design company Cassina, used it to make slipcovers for their famous Wink chair designed by well known Japanese designer, Toshiyuki Kita.

Longing to branch out on her own, Nora was part of a group in Helsinki who started the concept agency Yatta where she is art director, concept designer and graphic designer. The company focuses on marketing, design, architecture and digital media. Yatta’s very successful rebranding of the Finnish café PICNIC, lead by Nora, is featured in the new book, Shop Image Graphics in Scandinavia.

Joining forces with her cousin, Kaija, to form mukula is icing on the cake creatively for Nora. mukula allows her the freedom to design without limits and work internationally.

Nora lives in Helsinki, Finland with her son and spends her summers at her beloved island cottage in Finland.
